Away

Not a lot of people know: I am in Iloilo right now, and it has been almost a month already. I am a non-student, and still unemployed. I will be back in Metro Manila by the end of August, and should be employed by middle of September.

For now, I am just here helping train some young contestants for international mathematics competitions (Yes.), helping set up computer laboratories in schools, spending time with old friends, staying contentedly broke, getting familiar with faces of more local tv artists, wailing tunes in front of the television, and thinking.

If you need to contact me, do so through my mobile phone. I still check for e-mail, but I do not go online as much. For those who commented on blog posts (I am surprised that there are a number. I haven’t been updating my blog religiously.), I will reply soon.

Um… Mabuhay! Haha.

The Christmas break

I was supposed to fly back to Iloilo last Thursday, December 21, for the Christmas break. I actually left the Katipunan area for the airport the earliest that I have ever done. I was really unfortunate with traffic though: regular traffic outside the airport area plus fifty (50) minutes of terrible traffic within the airport area caused me to miss check-in time, and somebody else had already gotten my flight slot by the time I arrived at the terminal. My airline’s earliest flight to Iloilo which could still accommodate another passenger was still on the 24th, so I had to wait three more days.

Having learned my lesson, Paolo and I left for the airport four hours before my flight on the 24th. Surprisingly, there was not much traffic. We left Katipunan at around noon, and were already at the airport terminal three and a half hours before my rescheduled flight.

I arrived home at around 6:00 PM of that day. Since my nuclear family now lives in the ancestral home of my mother’s side of the family, we hosted the Christmas eve celebration of three generations from my mother’s side. The next day, we hosted the pre-wedding celebration with the same group of people, Felipe (my sister’s then groom-to-be), and his family. On the evening of the 26th, we had the actual wedding celebration. Yesterday and today was a party-less day for me – I rested, studied, worked, watched a couple of movies, and visited the doctor to ask about this cough I have been having. Tomorrow will be the 29th, and I will be meeting with my high school classmates for a reunion. The next day, the 30th, home will, again, be hosting the yearly reunion of the four-generation extended family from my mother’s side. Heh, and on the eve of the 31st, we will probably be hosting the new year’s eve dinner again. Or maybe that of the evening after? On the 2nd of January, I leave for Metro Manila.

Wow, those are a lot. After the break, my life will be on a social slumber again.

Back in Iloilo

I arrived here at my home province Iloilo last Thursday. It has mostly just been a nonstop eating parade since, with lots of fish, fruits, and vegetables being served. When we are not eating, we either watch movies, or run errands, such as getting me another pair of eye glasses, having digital photos printed, and getting groceries for other dishes. I have also been reading books from time to time. My sister Thessa, who arrived from Metro Manila only a day before I did, and I have not been meeting with friends and relatives much yet, but as the five-day celebration of the Holy Week is nearing, I am guessing that we will soon be.

One of the things that I am looking forward to doing during the break is fishing for the very first time. Fishing is something that I have always been planning to do, but has never actually happened. This time, however, it will push through. I already have with me my dad’s fishing rod, which is already a couple of decades old but is still in a very good condition, and I have already gotten new hooks and nylon string. I am looking into fishing somewhere along the coastal areas of the province that is far from the city, but it might be a bit too much since I will have to ask someone who might not be interested in fishing (because I do not know anybody else here who is interested in the sport) to accompany me.

And wow, look, I found a map of Iloilo online! I never knew that the province is this big. Or rather, that the city is only a very small part of the province.
